In the spring of 2025, the District conducted a facility evaluation in regards to the buildings’ aging HVAC systems and compliance to current code. The outcome was that more than half of our school spaces are in need of upgrades to meet today’s air quality requirements.
This project is about more than equipment—it’s about creating the conditions where students succeed, staff thrive, and our community continues to grow. This project will replace 18 air systems that have exceeded their effective lifespan, many by more than double, and modernizing 4 more, bringing cleaner air, better temperature control, and improved reliability to classrooms and shared spaces.
Project Overview:
- Affects over 70% of students
- Affects over 50% of the building with an estimated130,205 SqFt
- 22 HVAC units being modified or repalced
- Est. $9 Million Investment
The cost of inaction is too high. With current lead times for air units spanning 6–9 months, a single equipment failure could leave a large area of our school without climate control for nearly a full academic year. This is a strategic, proactive investment in student and staff wellbeing, and responsible stewardship of community resources.
By being proactive, we secure an estimated 35% cost savings over piecemeal repairs while reducing the risk of an emergency shutdown and being able to take advantage of Ag-to-School tax credits.
Healthy air isn’t a luxury—it’s essential for learning and wellbeing.
Upgrading our HVAC systems will:
- Reduce allergens, moisture, and the risk of mold
- Improve air circulation and filtration Support students with asthma and respiratory needs
- Create more consistent, comfortable classrooms
Research shows that better air quality leads to:
- Fewer student and staff absences
- Improved concentration and academic performance

Minnesota offers an Ag-to-School Tax Credit. The State covers 70% of the school bond cost per acre, and landowners are responsible for the remaining 30%.
